My name is Larry, and this is written by my brother and I...however this isn't about us...it's about our mom. Her name is Jaki Jackson. A few weeks ago, our mother informed my brother and I that she had been diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer. Our mother has a thing about hiding things from us because she doesn't want us to worry. We knew she had been off her p's and q's recently, but we didn't expect this. If you knew her like us...you would know that if you ever asked her a question about her health...she would be lible to "curse" you out! Seriously!
So the panic has begun...we are going crazy trying to find treatments...chemo...facilities...contingency plans...and then we find another nugget. My mother lost her MEDICAID months ago due to not following up on paperwork. So instead of telling us or the family, she had been going to the ER secretly and paying out of pocket. I hate to say it...but this is my mom.
So, we indeed scramble to find options...and we have continously found dead ends. She doesn't qualify for this...she doesn't qualify for that...she can qualify...but it won't start until Jan 1, 2016.
And there was another nugget we found. Her life insurance policy she had also got cancelled...due to what...yeah you at this point get the theme...non payment. Its so crazy because she would constantly be on my brother and I about having our stuff together and making sure our kids are "taken care of," if something ever happened to us. If you knew her like my brother and I...these are the kinds of things she does. She has always taken care of the next person before even looking at herself. She was a giver and everyone who knows her would agree. We saw how she would give people her everything...never asking for nothing in return. She always paid it forward.
Just this last week, the doctors at the hospital she is at told us that she has weeks to live. So in the scramble of it all, we are trying to figure out how to take care of things for her. Our family is united and doing what can be done, however we need hospice care for her once she leaves the hospital and also we need to be able to fund her pain medicine...because it is extremely expensive. We are also asking for help to pay for a "F". Sorry I can't say that word yet...she is still alive and I will not put that into the air. I want to stay positive while I have my mother alive.
We are just asking for help. It doesn't matter how much...just help please. It almost feels bad when you as a person can't pay for someone you love to be taken care of the right way. It seems that the people who deserve it the most are usually the ones that get it the least. And to be clear...even if you don't give a dime...the fact that you read this...please...say a prayer for her and our family...have positive thoughts about her...burn a candle...whatever it is we thank you. Your support...is welcomed.
