5 months for Ava
Donation protected
This story is about a sweet 6 year old girl named Ava. Ava is a rambunctious and caring older sister to 3 younger siblings. In March 2018 sweet Ava’s usual joy, love and kindness was out of sorts; she wasn’t acting like herself. Ava’s family started to notice that Ava was physically thin and that she seemed continually thirsty and hungry but it didn’t seem to matter how much she ate and drank she was still hungry, thirsty and in an unusual mood. Her parents took her to the doctor as a precautionary measure to make sure Ava was in good health. When her symptoms were explained to the doctor the doctor showed signs of concern, Ava had blood work done and went back home. 20 minutes later they were called to go to emergency, Ava was suffering from Ketoacidosis resulting in a high level of acid in her blood stream. Ava would soon find out that her life would be forever changed, diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes she will now be insulin dependant for the remainder of her life. Ava’s blood sugar levels were intensely high and she was transferred to the Red Deer hospital.
Over the next week she learned about her new condition and was treated to rebalance her blood sugar levels. Ava has so gracefully accepted her knew life with an amazing attitude. When her mother asked her if she was upset about her diagnosis she responded, “no I’m fine, it’s just who I am now and I can’t change that so I’m just fine about it”
As Ava and her family adjust to this new life Ava’s care will incure medical costs for diabetes supplies and insulin of around $1000/ month that will not be covered by Alberta Health Care. We would like to raise enough money for Ava and her family to have 5 months financially worry free to research insurances, grants, and funding for Ava’s care. Thank you for taking the time to read about Ava, and for any help that you can offer.
