Help an old hippie get a new hip!

You may never feel old mentally, but your body can easily remind you that time is, in fact, marching on. My left hip has been bothering me for the last few years, and I just found out I need BOTH hips replaced! The left one is completely shot, I'm pretty much in constant pain, and I walk with a cane and "a hitch in my giddyup" like Grandpappy Amos from "The Real McCoys" (if you're as old as I am, you probably remember:).
I need surgery as soon as possible. Like lots of folks, I've had some bad luck the past few years: I lost my job, then my house, then my car, and was only able to find low-paying or part-time jobs. Now I have no health insurance, and can only work a few hours a week at my job in a bookstore. Family and close friends have been so loving and generous in helping me out with living expenses,transportation, etc., but I feel there is a limit as to how much one can ask. After much soul-searching and deliberation, I have decided to reach out to Facebook and online friends and perhaps, friends of friends, to help me raise the funds needed for my hip replacement. I have to pay a large sum to the surgeon up front before they will schedule the surgery, and then funds will be needed for physical therapy, prescriptions, and to help during time off from work for recovery. (I'm hopeful that I'll qualify for a charity care program at the hospital to cover their charges).
