Cycling4Health & fight against Cancer&Amyloidosis

Hi Everyone,

On July 6th I will be cycling in the 2024 1-Day Master Tour organised by Cycling4Health to once again raise funds to support the fight against cancer.

This year I also wish to raise funds for research into cancer-associated diseases - specifically for research into amyloidosis, also known as amyloid disease..

The reason is simple...

My brother Rutger (49) was diagnosed with Amyloidosis last December. Amyloidosis is a rare disorder that occurs when a protein called amyloid builds up in organs. This amyloid buildup can make organs not work properly. Organs that may be affected include the heart, kidneys, liver, spleen, nervous system and digestive tract. It can lead to life threatening organ failure. There is no known cause, but it happens when your bone marrow makes abnormal antibodies that can't be broken down. It's linked with a blood cancer multiple myeloma.

Although there's no cure for amyloidosis, some types can be managed well through treatment to improve the symptoms. Further research is so urgently needed!

Rutger is currently undergoing extensive treatment involving multiple chemo-therapies and immuno-therapy. Once this first round of treatment is completed, it can potentially be followed by a stem cell transplant if and when his condition allows him to go down this route.

My aim in cycling this 320km route along Luxembourg's borders is once more to raise funds. All of your generous donations will be divided equally among these 3 causes:

The 320km route I'll ride follows the land borders of Luxembourg, is cycled in one day and has approximately 3,200 meters of elevation. The Master Tour is undoubtedly the most challenging one-day cycling tour organised in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

Any donation is greatly appreciated and will go a long way to helping those affected by cancer / amyloidosis.
