Stupid cancer. That's what my cousins said last week when I told that them that on Monday, April 11, my dad was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma--a tumor located in the juncture between his esophagus and his stomach. He had been symptom free. Our family has faced cancer head-on in the past and my dad will be no exception. He beat colon cancer 5 years ago so we have witnessed his drive, his fortitude, and his faith. We call upon all of you to join us in praying for Dad, because that is the thing we covet the most.
Dad and I will be flying to MD Anderson in Houston very soon to consult with doctors there regarding his care. Right now, the treatment plan is for him to undergo 2-4 weeks of chemo and radiation, and then do another PET scan to see if the tumor has shrunk enough and if his lymph nodes aren't "fired up" anymore so they can do surgery, which will be extensive. We don't know much more than this right now.
This journey will not be short or easy, but we know that God is with us. There will be many expenses and we need your help to cover air fare, apartment/hotel stays in Houston, travel costs, food, and any medical costs Dad's insurance doesn't cover, etc. Those costs are one of the many unknowns to us right now.
Meanwhile, please pray for Darren and me, Mom, Dad, and the doctors and nurses as we try to navigate a game plan that will send this cancer to the locker room, beaten. Loser. Stupid cancer.
