I am a blessed and fortunate man. A group of friends have banded together to support my post-double lung surgery care. Some of you know that three years ago I was diagnosed with a terminal lung condition. Last week, we received word that I was eligible for a double lung transplant, a risky operation given that I did not meet the minimum weight requirement - but I made it!. (Over the three year period, my weight dropped from 165 to 98 pounds). The caveat to the surgery was that the family needed to guarantee six weeks of 24 hour/day care, post-surgery. None of us have that kind of money but a friend has offered to match the amount we raise, dollar for dollar. The cost of my post-surgery care is $13,000; for every dollar you give, I will receive the money needed to pay for the home health aide, medicines, food, etc. (As you know, my vocation as a musician and entreprenuer means no medical insurance). The response has been encouraging. My son, Akil, has been my strong supporter all along as has a close circle of friends. Know that your gift will be matched, dollar for dollar until the goal is reached. A long time ago, I must have paid it forward because the universe is shining favorably upon me now.
