Violet was born June 1st, 2016 to Nate & Whitney (Jackson) Hoy. They live in Atlanta, MO
Violet was taken to the doctor because of fevers. Test came back showing abnormal bilirubin levels. They were then sent to the hospital in Columbia Labor Day weekend. They stayed the night in Columbia. The test results showed it was her liver causing the problem and they were sent to Children's Hospital in St. Louis for further treatment. A liver biopsy was done along with another test that would help diagnosis what the Doctor’s believed it was.
The biopsy showed she has Biliary Artesia, which is causing her liver not to function properly. When a baby has biliary atresia, bile flow from the liver to the gallbladder is blocked. This causes the bile to be trapped inside the liver, quickly causing damage and scarring of the liver cells (cirrhosis), and eventually liver failure.
This type of thing is usually seen in infants much younger than her and they can usually reverse it at a young age. She is past the normal reversal time and there for they don't believe the reversal surgery would be effective. She will eventually need a transplant. They got a referral to Mayo and have an appointment for Monday, September 26th.
Insurance will pay for the transplant but they will still have to pay for Violet's insurance, pay the deductible along with traveling expenses. Whitney will not receive a paycheck after this week as she will be taking unpaid leave.
Donations will be used for traveling expenses, medicine, etc,
Nate & Whitney are very grateful and thankful for any donations and ALL prayers as they begin this difficult journey.
