Hey, I'm Alejandro, and all I want to do is be able to pop my shirt off in public!
I am a 25 year-old transgender guy, living on the Southwest side of Chicago. When I was very small, I would walk around with a towel around my waist like a little dude in a locker room, and since I was 18 I have worn a binder (chest compressing shirt) every day of my life.
While this works for the rest of the world to see me as male, it does not help the severe depression that comes with knowing there are a lot of basic liberties that I have never been able to experience--the most simple of which, is poppin' off my shirt, yo.
Going to the beach or being able to escape a little heat may seem insignificant or unneccesary to some, but the reality is, the feeling is that of living with a giant, pulsating squid attached to your chest. When placed in a situation where normally one would be shirtless, I kind of think "Count me out, I've got this horrible monstrosity attached to me."
And now the real bummer. That monstrosity becomes a constant thought, and dysphoria rears its ugly head. From this anxiety comes depression ("Things will never change"), and from this depression comes suicidal thoughts and tendencies. Every single day is a fight. From the minute my eyelids open, I am planning my own death. An enormous amount of this weight was lifted when I began testosterone injections (note the beard), and this GoFundMe is to help complete the other part that journey (DON'T STOP. BELIEEEEVEN.)
