While on a family vacation with our whole family (Meme, PopPop, Aunt Amy, Mommy, Daddy, and Drew); Sydney fell off a horse on July 19, 2016. She was rushed to Maine Medical Center in Portland, ME and listed in critical condition in the PICU unit. As the medical team is able to do more assessments, we learn more details of the extent of her injuries.
Sydney has a broken right arm, three broken vertebrae in her back, a broken jaw, and perhaps a collapsed lung. The MRI on Friday, July 22 showed there are brain contusions, we will not know how bad or how permanent the damage is until she wakes up and they can do further assesments.
She is a fighter. She is there, and she responds to our touch and our voices. She is a very brave little girl. She is getting the best care possible at the the top trauma center in Maine.
The hospital immediately worked with the Ronald McDonald House to get Laura and Andy set up in a room. Meme and PopPop can stay there too as needed. Laura spoke with the insurance and the insurance bills are covered because of the plan they have.
Andy can take family leave at full pay, but Laura cannot. Laura can take family leave at zero pay. Zero. That is a significant worry for them right now. No mother should have to make such a choice. We, her family (her sister Amy, and her parents) have created this account to raise funds so Laura can stay home with Sydney as long as she needs to, and not have to worry about the lost income.
Any contribution you can make will be extremely helpful. Please share with your friend. Sydney is going to be very scared when she wakes up, and she will need her mother there to care for her day and night.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. #SydneyStrong
