Operation Assist Officer Rongen

This is a GoFundMe campaign to benefit Kris Rongen, setup by his friends and law enforcement colleagues. Kris, a loving father of two, dedicated Community Corrections Specialist with the Washington State Department of Corrections whose primary duty is to make our community safer by apprehending violent felons who have absconded from their DOC supervision after their release from prison. Kris works closely with units from both federal and state law enforcement agencies, to include, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the Seattle Police Department, Auburn Police Department, Kent and many other police agencies within King and Pierce counties (the list is too long to name).On June 28, 2016, while working on an operation with the ATF led Puget Sound Regional Crime Gun Task Force, Kris was shot twice by a multi convicted felon and violent gang member while conducting his arrest on a state issued warrant. The bullet from the first shot entered and exited through Kris' right shin and calf. The bullet from the second shot went through Kris' right knee, shattering his knee cap. The injuries Kris sustained required Doctors at Harborview Medical Center to perform surgery to repair his right Tibia and knee cap. After 5 days at Harborview Kris was released. He is now recovering, healing and rehabilitating his knee and lower leg. A process which, at best, will take 3 months and, quite possibly, longer than that. The effect of the shooting on Kris goes much further than the injury to his right leg however. The shooting and the injuries he has sustained have limited Kris from working the hours he typically is able to work, causing a financial strain on Kris and his family. As many of his friends and co-workers observed at Harborview, the shooting was particularly difficult for Kris' family and children. While ATF has generously seen to it that Kris' transportation needs are met due to his inability to drive and have been able to make up much of the hours that Kris had lost, we created this GoFundMe campaign in hopes to raise money for Kris to cover expenses should his rehabilitation be complicated and take longer than expected. Hoping that it doesn't take longer than expected, we are hoping to express our appreciation for his dedicated work in making our community safer and, at least raise enough money to allow Kris to be able to take a nice trip with his children somewhere where they can enjoy things a bit and put this difficult moment in the past.
