On Saturday evening (June 18), Cassandra Honn Nelson suffered a stress-induced cardiomyopathy – also known as broken-heart syndrome.  A portion of her heart became paralyzed and prevented the rest of the heart from circulating blood to her body.  Her brain went without oxygen for over 20 minutes.

Cassie was rushed to the hospital and remains in critical condition.  Doctors say that because Cassie's brain went without oxygen for so long, she suffered severe brain damage and it's unlikely that she will ever come out of her coma.  Cassie is only 35 years old and has always been very healthy. She has no history of heart or health problems. We are all in shock and devasted.

Cassie married my brother, Eric, 13 years ago and is the love of his life.  They are best friends and make a perfect match.  Cassie and Eric have a 3 and a half year old daughter named Scout whom they adore.

Cassie is such a wonderful person.  She is a devoted wife, caring mother and a dear friend.  She is smart, graceful, empathetic, supportive and has a great sense of humor.  She is extremely talented and artistic too.  (Check out her photography at http://linenlacephotography.com/)

Please help us take care of Cassie, Eric and Scout.  There will be enormous medical expenses regardless of Cassie's outcome.  We hope to use any proceeds from this fundraiser for Cassie's physical therapy needs, although we fear we may be planning a funeral.  We'll also use the proceeds to take care of Scout (child care expenses, college education fund, etc.)
