Support for La Mariposa Spanish school

Hi Guys! I’m Devin, and this is my mom Allison. She teaches art history at community college and is passionate about education, travel and birds (and a bunch of other stuff too lol). Her birthday is coming up, Aug 15th, and instead of giving her fashion face masks to match every outfit I want to try and raise some money for a cause that’s dear to her heart. She’s been involved with La Mariposa Spanish school in Masaya Nicaragua for years now, going down once or twice a year for Spanish immersion, birdwatching and volunteer work. La Mariposa is fully committed to their community doing environmental work, reforestation, children’s education with a special program for those with disabilities, animal rescue, water distribution, and now food distribution. Normally 100% of La Mariposa’s profits go to these programs but with the fall out of Covid 19 tourism is nonexistent and there is no support from the government, the situation in Nicaragua is becoming pretty dire. Now I don’t ask for your help lightly, there’s so many very important causes that need our support on the home front but if you have the means to spare just a little more to help these families through this crisis it would mean so much to so many. $13 buys 10 lbs of rice, 5 lbs of beans, a liter of oil, 4 tomatoes and 4 onions, the basics for a family for a week. About $5000 covers the cost to to feed the 100 families that La Mariposa distributes to. To quote La Mariposa’s last news letter “We know there is a lot going on in the world, and it can be overwhelming. Keeping the daily gallo pinto on the dinner table of families in one small corner of the world that is dear to our hearts is one simple and tangible way to we can address some of the injustices in our world. Muchas gracias por su apoyo!” Lastly, if you happen to know my mom please keep this fundraiser a secret, I want to surprise her with the donation on her birthday!!
