20th Annual Cancer Awareness ~ Sponsoring ~ Donna Kukla

Our 20th year Cancer Fundraiser recipient this year is very near and dear to us.

I always wait throughout the year for someone to get in touch with me that knows of someone who needs help with their bills due to illness from cancer treatments to reach out. Our dear friend and receptionist Donna was diagnosed almost a year ago with terminal lung cancer. This cancer has now metastasized to her kidneys. Thank God the U of M team treated her quickly and aggressively. With this treatment and prayers from MANY family and friends, the chemo treatments shrunk the tumor on her lung, allowing airflow to come back to her lungs, stopping the Afib that she was experiencing because of the tumor. Donna has been such a trooper throughout this whole process. She has insisted on continuing to come in and keep up with the salon tasks and taking care of all of us! She also is still taking care of her husband and her sister who both have been fighting with their own health struggles.

Donna responded so well with the chemo and will remain on immunotherapy. Her recent PET scan showed two new lesions on her kidneys. This is a huge disappointment for her. Now she's starting radiation and a new medication that will cost a substantial amount of money per month out-of-pocket. I asked her if she was struggling with her medical bills. She gently said, "They are getting to be more than I can handle." My heart led me to ask her if she'd allow us to help her even if we did an anonymous fundraiser, knowing how private she has kept all of this. She, in great appreciation said, " So many people from the salon know now and have been praying for me, I truly believe those prayers are getting me through this."

This years event will be held from October 1st, through October 31st 2024

Baskets are on display here at the salon and new ones are coming in every day! There are tickets for sale here at the salon. 3 for $5 - 7 for $10 and an arm's length for $20.

Final basket drawing will be on Thursday October 31st. Winners will be called that evening!
