Almost 3 1/2 weeks ago my mother, Kay Shrode, fell and did damage to her spinal cord. Throughout these weeks, Dad has poured over websites looking at medial equipment and ways to convert their house. He has searched for hours looking for grants that might be available for personal use in the case of someone that has become handicapped. It's a huge undertaking. We have finally realized that Mom and Dad are going to need some help . No one can be prepared for something like this to happen. It's such an incredible shock . Trying to figure it all out is overwhelming. The medical costs and renovation costs just keep adding up. We can see that this situation is bigger than ability to take care of it alone. We are opening up a Go Fund Me to help support the conversions that are needed for Mother to be able to function at home. They will need carpet replaced with other flooring, several doors widened, total reconstruction of the bathroom that she will be using, and ramps. The cost of a different vehicle is also weighing heavily. Asking for help is a hard pill to swallow and we keep telling Dad that sometimes people just need help. We want to say ahead of time that anything and everything will be unequivocally appreciated from the bottom of our hearts! In the case that there are any funds left , the balance will be donated to the United Spinal Association .
