LOLOMA FOUNDATION
OPTOMETRIC / CATARACT SURGERY
MISSION 2013
It has been
a career dream of mine to be able to go on an Optometric/Medical mission since
my days at State University of New York (SUNY) Optometry. However, with the
urgency of "finishing school, working, paying off debts, getting married, having
kids, raising kids(still raising kids), etc.", the drills seem never ending
until one decides to make a conscious decision to make it happen. My previous dilly dallying thoughts were an
obvious obstacle, but opportunities are abound when one allows such barriers to
come down. One such opportunity is the upcoming optometric/cataract surgery
mission with The Loloma Foundation on the Taveuni Island(Fiji) in April, 2013.
As with
most developing countries, Fiji's healthcare system is heavily burdened, and
struggles to support the needs of those who live there, especially on many of
the very remote islands.
This mission
will consist of an optometric team that will perform vision and eye medical
treatment, identify candidates for eye surgery and a cataract surgery team that
will be performing surgery. The
optometric team consists of Tom Rippner, Sharon Rippner, and Trang Ta-Hopkins
while the cataract surgery team consists of Dr. Mike Limberg and his assistant,
Chris Bartolo. Please watch my video
link for more information and see the incredible impact the Loloma Foundation
& its volunteers have made.
The cost
for this mission will be $3000.00 per person, inclusive of air, local daily
transport, accommodation, meals, and all taxes. Volunteers are responsible for
their own travel expenses. If you would like to help fund my mission, monetary
donations can be made on my link of GoFundMe.com. Any support would be greatly
appreciated and thank you in advance for all your generosity!
Sincerely,
Trang
