In 1 week my 15 year old daughter has a risky surgery. Shelby has a plexiformneurofibroma on her brain that will be shaved down. This tumour cannot be fully removed nor does it respond to chemotherapy. Part of the tumour will be left in Shelby's brain around the main drainage vein. This surgery could end with Shelby having a stroke and dying on the table or being left in a vegetative state. If the remaining part of the tumour is to grow it too can lead to a stroke and death.
Shelby's tumour is caused by Neurofibromatosis type 1. Her 12 year old brother also has it and 2 untreatable brain tumours. The CHILDREN'S TUMOUR FOUNDATION OF AUSTRALIA, is the only charity in Australia that supports families with Neurofibromatosis, it is non-government funded charity. They are also involved in research to find a cure. Australian trials are hoped to be started on patients with plexiformneurofibromas caused by Neurofibromatosis soon. Overseas similar drugs have been tried with signs of success in shrinking these often life threatening tumours. With the unprecedented covid-19 effecting one of the biggest fund-raisers for the year we would like to do our part. Our goal is to raise $5000 to contribute to the Australian trial to bring hope for the future of not only our children but also for other families. If Shelby was to die from this surgery we want these funds to be her legacy.
**IF WE RAISE $5K BY 11TH OF MAY 2020 I WILL SHAVE MY HAIR OFF... BUT SERIOUSLY ID LIKE TO MAKE $10K **
