NO DOG LEFT BEHIND: Lanta Animal Welfare adoption campaign
Dear friends of Lanta Animal Welfare,
We are launching a new initiative to speed up the process of having our dogs adopted and we really need your help.
All adopted dogs need to be micro-chipped and have a blood test done before they can be approved for travel abroad. The blood is sent to Europe for rabies testing and once the dog receives the all clear, the quarantine period begins (all of which takes place in Thailand "“ no quarantine required in the new country). This means a new owner can end up waiting several months for the dog they have fallen in love with to finally arrive at their new home.
We have decided all our dogs should be "pre-approved" for adoption, enabling a dog to travel straight away if someone wants to adopt him or her. We are launching a campaign to microchip all the dogs in our care as well as sending a blood sample from each of them to Europe, even before someone has decided to adopt them.
Once our dogs are confirmed as rabies-free, they will begin a 3 month quarantine period, after which each dog will be ready to travel as soon as someone decides they want to adopt one.
So where do you come in? Well, we think the heavy rains this low season may have affected our money tree as it is really not growing very well at the moment ;-) To carry out rabies blood testing on one dog costs us 3,600 Thai baht and to microchip a dog costs 500 baht, so a total of 4,100THB (€104/US$134/UK£84/SEK889) to get one dog ready for immediate adoption.
Our normal way of fundraising is to ask people to give what they can. However, in this instance, if you can help, we need you to sponsor the full cost for one dog to be pre-approved for adoption (4,100 THB). In this situation, partial sponsorship is not going to help us and will just end up costing us money in Paypal fees.
VERY IMPORTANT: If sending payment for one dog, please ensure you specify which dog! You can do this by leaving a comment on this page, giving your name and the name of the dog or alternatively please email us at [e-mail geredigeerd].
We have prepared photographs and
information on each of our dogs on our Facebook page. Please take a look at
these beautiful animals and choose one that you would like to support in
getting pre-approved for adoption. You
might want to help Mai Tai, who was dumped by her Western owner once he
realised she was pregnant. Or consider Dok Dek - we first met him because
somebody had poured burning oil on his head. His crime had been to come looking
for food.
Have you ever read updates from us
on dogs that are looking for homes and felt sad that you were not in a position
to help? Maybe you have even visited our centre and wished you could take a dog
home with you but your circumstances didn't allow it. Well here is a way you
can really make a difference without having to commit to adoption. You should
know that if you sponsor a dog for adoption pre-approval, you will have played a
major role in getting him or her to a new home.
This is your chance to change a life and we want no dog left behind. Please help us if you can.
Thank you.
