Seizure-Alert Dog for Ethan

Donation protected
Hello! My name is Ethan. I’m three years old and I LOVE to play outside. I also have a seizure disorder and a bleeding disorder called hemophilia b, which tends to complicate things when I have a seizure. The thing is, I have trouble communicating my needs to my parents, so I’m hoping I can get a dog to do that for me! I know when I’m about to have a seizure usually, but I can’t always ask for help when I need it most! Mom could surely use a break worrying about me all the time, too, even if it’s for a second to make me a peanut butter jelly sandwich in the other room. I’d love to have the bed to myself, too! I’m a big boy now, but Mom stays close because of the seizures. Maybe having a dog at the foot of the bed will give her what some people call “peace of mind”. I’ll be starting school soon, too, and my teachers will need a way to make sure I don’t get hurt and from what I’ve heard, a seizure alert dog is the way to go!!! Mom says the cost of a seizure alert dog is $1000-$2100 and training can be upwards of $10,000! I don’t know what that means other than that it gives Mom a big headache thinking about it! If you could help my Mom figure that number out, that’d be great! Note from Mom: Ethan suffers from partial complex seizures and was diagnosed at the age of 1. He was also diagnosed with Hemophilia B just two months after the seizure diagnosis. We’ve had a long road and now that he’s beginning school, things have certainly become more complicated. Exposure to new “bugs” from school kids has often kept him sick and with sickness, come seizures. With seizures, there is always a fall risk involved and that is where we begin to worry about injury/bleeds. We’re hoping a service dog can alert an adult in time for when Ethan starts what we call the “spin” during his seizures to help avoid injury. We do also currently co-sleep and he’s getting to the point of wanting to be a “big boy” and sleep alone. This would be impossible without a service dog. We also know that having a service dog at school will allow for his therapist and teachers to keep a better eye on him while also being able to complete their work with teaching. All in all, a service dog would be such a huge blessing for everyone involved in Ethan’s life!! We greatly appreciate any donation and if you are unable to give, please contact me around entering a referral on the Make a Wish Foundations website (free). Thank you!!
