Help feed Calgary families over the holidays

For every dollar raised, 12 pounds of food go to a family in need

This holiday season will be a little different, and with many people in urgent need of daily essentials, the case for food security has never been stronger. We are seeing more and more Canadians lean on one another to get through this year.

Since the economic fallout of COVID-19, more Canadians are turning to food banks for the first time and millions more continue to rely on these centres to put food on their table. Food insecurity affects 1 in 7 Canadian households.

Four Steps to a Successful Fundraiser

  • Creating your fundraiser

Your fundraiser description and title should both inform and inspire. You can do so by making it clear why you are fundraising, use high-quality and relevant images, and set an attainable and manageable goal amount.

  • Initial sharing and promotion

Let the people closest to you or your cause know about the fundraiser first. Support leads to more support, so asking people to join you as being the first to donate or share will give your fundraiser initial momentum. Send personal outreaches to your closest supporters to get them invested in your cause.

  • Spread the word on social media

Once signed into your GoFundMe account, use the buttons in your dashboard to share on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, via text, and email. Start a fundraiser based hashtag to help you and your supporters stay connected and spread the word. And whenever possible, include the GoFundMe link.

  • Post updates

Posting an update leads to new donations. When you post an update to your GoFundMe from within your account, you can choose to post it on your social media and/or email it to your donors to re-engage them. Get creative and post different kinds of updates every few days or every week.
