Emmy's 5th Annual Food Drive

Donation protected
Hi.  My name is Emmy, I am a 4th grader at Geist Elementary School and I love hockey and softball.

I know there are a lot of kids my age who do not have food to eat everyday and hygiene items to keep them clean and healthy.

Through my church my family has helped families at Thanksgiving, Easter and Christmas but I know that help is needed all year long.

In 2013 I had my first birthday food drive and donated 180 canned food items to The Sharing Place in Indianapolis.

I decided in 2014 that instead of just suggesting that canned food items be brought to my birthday party I would ask people to bring canned food items.  For that year I collected 417 canned food items, double the amount from 2013.

For 2015 I really wanted to be able to assist more families.  I asked my parents to reach out to their friends and co-workers to donate.  My Mom also shared my request on Facebook.  Amazingly, I was able to donate over 1,200 canned food items and hygiene items - it was over 1,800 pounds of food!

For 2016 I thought, wow, how can I do this again! How can I double 2015?  I had high goals and through the help of many families and businesses such as our dentist Moore-Berry dentistry and the local Kroger, we did amazing things.  I applied for a micro grant to expand hygiene items as they are not food stamp eligible but I did not get the grant.  But I did get interviewed by our local TV station, that was very cool.  Here is a link to my interview.

Our local Chick-Fil-A even provided food and drinks for my birthday party.  I split my donations to include both The Sharing Place and the Come to Me Food pantry to help families in both Marion and Hamilton counties.

When I was home over school holiday break I heard on the news that food donations for our local food pantries were much much lower than what was needed.  This means that the 5th year of my birthday food drive is even more needed than ever.  I have also applied for a Walmart community grant, keep your fingers crossed for me!!

Can you help me donate more than 2016?  The 2016 donation was a big one and I really need your help for 2017.  2016 donations were 2,400 food and non perishable items, 1060 diapers, 30 jugs of laundry detergent, 215 toothbrushes and 140 tubes of toothpaste!!!

This is really important to me as I don't think any family should be without food and necessary hygiene items.  With your help we can all make such a huge difference to so many families in Marian and Hamilton county.  Even the smallest donation can make a huge difference.

Thank you!  Emmy
