Most of you know me, but if not my name is Dan Michitsch. Here's my story- So I took on a challenge to do my first triathlon here in NYC for the NYC Panasonic triathlon on July 19, 2015.  As I was training one day this week I had this feeling to myself about how everything I was doing was selfish.  It was all for me and it just didnt seem right.  Since I got into the triathlon process late and did not know much about how it works, i missed out on the fundraising oppurtunities, so i decided to take it into my own hands.  I set up this page to directly to help doctors raise money to find a cure for the SLY syndrome.  I am already entered into the race so none of the money here will be used for me to register, it is all going directly to the Foundation.   My buddy Matthew in the pictures with me has SLY syndrome.   He has lived indoors at the St Marys Hospital for Children in bayside, Queens.  It is very hard and rare for him to be able to go outside due to the fact he is hooked up to machines most of his life.  Doctors all around the country have met Matthew and they do all that they can for him.  He undergoes surgeries which consist of enzyme replacement treatments among others.  He loves to go outside the few chances he gets and he loves to laugh, or better yet make others laugh.  Matthew is unable to speak, but do not let that fool you for he is a total comedian.  When I was first going to meet him, I initially went there with the intentions of making him laugh and smile, but i quickly learned that he is the one who puts the smiles on everyone in there including myself!  All of the amazing staff at St Marys knows Matthew and his great personality.  His parents work very hard and always find time to stop in and see him.  Luckily for me, while coaching at St Francis Prep I am able to stop in and see him a lot more because of how close I am to him.  I bring him Gear from the Team and they sign footballs for him.  He was honorary captain and he even sleeps in the Jersey we got for him.  Doctors have said his days were numbered since being a young baby, but he is strong, and he is now a teenager with the ability to light up a room with his huge smile and keeps proving those doctors wrong.  His parents and his two brothers are his love.  He facetimes them and loves seeing them.    I Thank those of You for taking the time to read this and I Thank those of you who choose to donate ahead of time to help find a cure-Thank you.   please feel free to click the link to the Matthew Evangelista Foundation and read and learn more about this rare syndrome.  I was lucky enough to have the Honor to meet him, become pals, and have him be a part of my life.   I donate all the hard work that I am putting into this triathlon all for my favorite little buddy, and My Best Friend MATTHEW, I know he'd do the same for me.   Now everyday I train for this race I will DO IT FOR MATTHEW as he is my motivation.

Those who donate will receive a T-shirt from me.  Just contact me with your recommended shirt size and I can order them ASAP.
