WATER FILTERS FOR PUERTO RICO
Puerto Rico has been devastated by Hurricane Maria, with the country losing power and resources, basic necessities such as clean water becomes hard to obtain. Plastic water bottles only provide a temporary solution.
The Defense Department said Tuesday that only 56 percent of people on the island have potable water.
USA Today reported that Arecibo, a town on the northern shore of the island, had only one source of fresh water: a single fire hydrant. Rescue workers have been distributing bottled water, but it’s safe to assume many people haven’t received any yet.
With your help, the proceeds from this GoFundme will go to the purchase, shipping and delivery of at least 25-30 NON-ELECTRIC Berkey water filters that can pump out 6,000 gallons of pure drinking water per one filter cycle.
The health effects of drinking contaminated water can range from no physical impact to severe illness or even death. Some of the effects of drinking contaminated water can be immediate, or not noticed for many years.
Weighing only seven pounds, each Berkey Light holds 2.5 gallons of purified water and can provide enough water for groups of 10-20 People per cycle.
This will be able to help hundred of people maintain clean drinking water for their families.
Remaing funds will be used to purchase food and medical supplies for small towns around the area.
Puerto Rico needs our help.
Once we have reached close to the goal, we will be flying out to Puerto Rico to oversee the filters being passed out to rural areas of the island as well as document the trip.
The goal is to hit our mark by the 15th.
