The Starting Point saves lives by educating and referring individuals and families in need of compassionate practitioners, support groups and educational programming. For those struggling with mental health issues, addiction, and recovery, The Starting Point has been serving those in need since Vince DiPasquale founded the nonprofit 42 years ago.
The Starting Point runs on a bare bones budget, leases a modest building, and recent circumstances (a loss of funding source, a possible need to relocate, and the growing need for mental health services for individuals and families from all walks of life) have made it a struggle to keep its doors open from 9:30 am to 9:30 pm every weekday and from 8 am to 4 pm on Saturdays.
Did you know that:
· 4 out of 5 new heroin users started with prescription drugs.
· Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death.
· 1 in 5 adults live with a mental health condition.
· 23 million Americans age 12 – yes, at age 12 – and older - suffer from alcohol and/or drug addiction.

As a nonprofit, we provide a referral program for those suffering with mental health issues - addiction and recovery, trauma, mood disorders, depression, grief, abuse, etc.; many free and low cost educational lectures and workshops; and we host 25 weekly support group meetings and house 45 independent practitioners. More than 30,000 individuals and families from all walks of life will cross our threshold this year.
