Livable Hawaii Kai Hui is fundraising
Kamilo Nui Nursery - Flood Recovery
Between April 13-14, 2018, extreme flash floods rocked Hawai‘i. Many families and businesses sustained heavy damages, including our own Aloha ‘Āina ‘O Kamilo Nui nursery.

AAOK is located in the back of Kamilonui Valley, Maunalua and is part of the area's last remaining agricultural lands. Managed by Livable Hawaii Kai Hui, AAOK grows a wide range of native plants that are used across the neighborhood at volunteer plantings, special events, and fundraisers for our non-profit conservation work.
We know we aren't the only ones still recovering from the intense flooding, but we would greatly appreciate any amount you can donate today. We are still awaiting official numbers, but our damages are clearly in the range of tens of thousands of dollars -- we could really use your help in making a dent in that sum.
Below is just a short list of the damages we found the morning after the floods stopped. Please donate whatever you can, as we hope to raise at least a third of our estimated costs. Even if you can't help us today, please share this campaign with your friends and family, and consider volunteering with us as we get to the physical work of rebuilding.

"For those still dealing with loss and damage from yesterday's storm we feel your pain.
Today we discovered jaw dropping damage at the nursery. Here is a short list:
1. An entire bridge built upon re-purposed telephone poles was busted apart and washed away
2. 15 wood replacement benches for holding 4" pots washed away
3. Heavy pallets washed away
4. Potting shed roof gone
5. Chicken coup frame damaged from trees uprooted and attempting to be washed away
6. Concrete walking paths washed away
7. Banana trees uprooted and damaged, some washed away
8. Our open field in the back of the property (once used for processing invasive algae from the bay) is full of garbage, trees, concert all from the cemetery (our road leading up there collapsed and is unsafe
Huge heavy pieces of concrete from Henry J Kaisers former cement plant washed done to our property line
9. The office flooded and outreach materials and displays permanently damaged.
10. Our huge stainless steel vat by the Mamaki greenhouse washed away. (Found it in the back of the neighbors property sitting in a newly formed steam bed shown below. Zoom in to see it.
Lastly, the irrigation system is shot. The PVS pipes are cracked or broke apart in areas where we sustained intense damage, such as the bridge washing away.
Tomorrow is another day.
Tonight we will start dreaming a new plan.
