Help for Heroes

On Sunday 19th April I will be running Manchester Marathon 2026! I am doing this to raise money for Help for Heroes- a charity that is close to my heart- and in memory of my wonderful dad, Robert Clare.

Help for Heroes are an incredible charity who support anyone in the Armed Forces community facing challenges by providing physical, psychological, financial and welfare support.

I have never been a particularly athletic person, however, I have been hugely enjoying my training and feel well-prepared for this great undertaking!

From starting the Couch to 5K programme in May last year (and not being able to run for more than a minute straight) to now being able to confidently run a 10k in just over an hour, I’m super excited to push myself ever further for such a worthy cause.

Any support would be massively appreciated.

P.S. To Dad- I won’t be running in combats and with bricks in a backpack like you used to, but I am determined to cross the finish line!

A little about the charity-

Help for Heroes is a British charity founded in 2007 to support wounded, injured, and sick members of the UK Armed Forces and their families. The organization provides lifelong recovery support, including physical rehabilitation, mental health care, welfare assistance, and help with transitioning back to civilian life.

My name is Owen, and I work for the Street Scene department at South Kesteven District Council. Along with seven of my colleagues, I will be taking part in a 15K Tough Mudder as part of our ongoing fitness journey.

Five of the eight members of our team are ex-military, and because of this we have chosen to support a charity that is very close to our hearts. This event is not only a personal challenge for us, but also an opportunity to raise funds and awareness for a cause that means a great deal to our team.

The event will take place on Sunday 5th July at Belvoir Castle. We have all been training hard and will continue to push ourselves in preparation for the challenge.

Any support or donations would be greatly appreciated and will go towards helping a charity that supports causes important to our team.

On Saturday 4th April 2026, I’ll be climbing Snowdon to raise money for Help for Heroes, a charity that means the world to me both personally and professionally.

As a veteran, I’ve seen firsthand how difficult it can be for service men and women to adjust to life after leaving the forces. Many face challenges that are invisible — both physical and emotional — and they deserve all the support we can give.

Through my work at HomeKind Cheshire, I see the power of compassion every day. Caring for others isn’t just what I do — it’s who I am. And this walk is my way of giving something back to those who’ve given so much for us all.

Every step up that mountain will be for the heroes who’ve served, for those still fighting their battles, and for the families who stand beside them.

All funds raised will go directly to Help for Heroes, helping to provide vital rehabilitation, mental health support, and recovery services for veterans across the UK.

Whether you can donate £1 or £50, every contribution makes a difference — and helps remind our heroes they’re never forgotten.

On February 26th, I am choosing to push my physical and mental limits by completing an 8-hour sponsored gym session. This challenge is deeply personal: I am doing this in memory of A Father A Son , A brother , whom we lost to PTSD. He is my "why," and his memory is what will drive me through every single rep.

​The Mission

While I will face 480 minutes of physical strain, many of our veterans face a silent, uphill battle with mental health every day. I am raising vital funds for Help for Heroes to ensure that those who served our country receive the life-changing support they deserve. They didn't quit on us, and I won't quit on this gym floor.

​The Challenge Breakdown

I will be tackling a grueling rotation, training each major muscle group for 90 minutes straight. I am proud to be supported by a team of Personal Trainers and great friends who will be training alongside me to help me reach the finish line:

​1.5 Hours: Legs

​1.5 Hours: Back

​1.5 Hours: Chest

​1.5 Hours: Shoulders

​1.5 Hours: Arms

​Final 30 Mins: The "Hero" Finisher

In remembrance of those who lost their life in the line of duty, me and my brother will be showing our gratitude and appreciation through our snowdon summit challenge.

The goal of this challenge is to climb to the summit of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) as many times as possible in a 24 hour period. All money raised will go to our chosen charity, Help for Heroes.
