Help Spike Get the Surgery He Desperately Needs

Spike has been through more in his short life than most dogs ever will — and now, he needs our help to finally be pain-free

This sweet 2-year-old Yorkie mix was found on the side of the highway after being hit by a car. His hips were severely displaced, and he required **double femoral head ostectomy (FHO)** surgeries — one in March and the other in April The procedures involved removing the head of each femur, as his hip sockets were no longer viable Just a few weeks later, he was neutered — **3 surgeries in 3 months**

Despite everything he’s endured, Spike is full of love and life But his foster family began noticing signs that something wasn’t right... He often limps, struggles to walk, and sometimes cries out in pain

After further imaging and an orthopedic consult, the heartbreaking truth was revealed: Spike’s original surgeries were not successful. He now has painful bone spurs in both hips — sharp bony growths that are stabbing into his tissue and causing daily discomfort

Spike is currently on **3 medications** just to help him move and play — but these are only a bandaid The specialist confirmed that he needs corrective surgery on both hips to live pain-free ❤️

The estimated cost for his surgery is **$5,000–$7,000** . Following surgery, early mobility and physical therapy are extremely important to ensure a good functional outcome. Any extra money raised for Spike will go towards psychial therapy appointments. Every single dollar helps! Help Us Build a Sanctuary of Hope for Abused and Neglected Animals

Since childhood, I’ve had an unshakable love for animals. Whether it was spotting a stray in need and refusing to leave until help arrived or convincing my parents to adopt our first dog when I was just eight years old, my heart has always been with animals in need. People say we’re born for certain callings, and in 2015, I found mine when I started cleaning kennels at a Metro Detroit animal shelter.

For six years, I poured my soul into rehabilitating broken and abused dogs—many rescued straight from the streets. Fostering became my passion, giving these animals a warm, loving home instead of a cold kennel, even if only temporarily. It was then that I dreamed of something bigger: a property where I could safely house and care for these deserving dogs.

In March 2021, that dream began to take shape when I co-founded Happy Paws Haven Co. with an amazing team. Since then, we’ve rescued over 2,100 animals, giving them love, care, and second chances they’d never thought possible.

But now, we need your help to take the next big step in our journey.

The Dream

In November 2024, our President and her husband took a leap of faith and purchased a 7.8-acre farm. This 30x72 2100sq foot building was previously used as a dog breeding facility, but we envision it as a nurturing and safe space for the dogs that is properly setup in accordance with state and local regulations.

The property is a blank slate. It’s missing essential infrastructure like septic, (proper) electricity, heat, kennels, fencing, and the basic necessities to safely house the animals.

How You Can Help

We’re reaching out to animal lovers, dreamers, and doers who believe in second chances. While monetary donations are appreciated, there are so many ways to contribute:

    •    Building materials (Plywood, insulation, metal, brick, fencing, electrical supplies, kennels, crushed asphalt or stone, etc.)

    •    Connections (Companies or individuals who may want to partner with us to assist with general construction, Septic, Plumbing, Electrical, or HVAC (Propane), Driveway leveling, Land cleanup and clearing, Equipment Rental, Etc.

Every contribution, no matter how small, will make an enormous difference. Whether it’s a donation, a connection, or even just spreading the word, you’ll be helping us create a space that will save countless lives.

Dear Happy Paws Supporters,

For those who may not be as familiar with our organization, Happy Paws Haven Co. is a tax-exempt 501(c)3 charity; a foster based no-kill animal rescue. We operate throughout Detroit and the surrounding metro areas, and we are so proud of all the service and great rescue work we have been able to provide thus far in our local communities.

Since Happy Paws was founded 3 years ago, we have rescued and adopted over 1800 homeless dogs and cats to loving families. Sadly, the requests to take in additional animals are never-ending, and we are often limited in our ability to assist when our current vehicle is occupied with supplies or animals already in our care. Accordingly, we are reaching out in hopes of raising funds for an additional transport van, in order to save more animals in need.

We hate asking for money. Our donors have already been so incredible allowing us to go above and beyond to ensure that every animal we rescue receives the veterinary care, supplies, and comfort they need while with our organization. Nonetheless, we know we simply cannot expand what we do without the ongoing generosity and support of our benefactors.

We would be so appreciative if you would help us reach our fundraising goal of $22,000.00 in 2024 to purchase another reliable transport van. With your support, not only can Happy Paws rescue more animals in desperate need, but also expand our volunteer efforts throughout our community. In addition to our use, we assist numerous other rescue organizations with transporting animals, pallets of food and supplies, adoption events, etc. who also struggle with limited resources. We believe in teamwork, giving back, and doing all that we can to help further our common goal.
