First Peoples of Louisiana Hurricane Ida Recovery
Please support the First Peoples of this land in their Hurricane Ida recovery. The First Peoples Conservation Council of Louisiana (FPCC) is an Association for Native American Tribes in Louisiana that identify and solve natural resource issues on their Tribal lands. Hurricane Ida brought catastrophic damage to the FPCC member Tribes, with the Category 4 hurricane making landfall directly in their communities. Many of the Tribal citizens from these communities have been left houseless or without protection from the elements and have no running water or electricity.

In-kind and monetary donations that the FPCC has received since August 29, 2021 have provided food, water, cleaning supplies, hygiene kits, solar generators, clean clothing, and more. Our innovative, green solutions to the lack of telecommunications in the area include the installation of solar trailers that are powering small Internet-cafes with laptops, cell phone charging stations, and wifi hotspots – allowing people to register for disaster assistance and re-establish a connection with the outside world to communicate our immediate needs.
These items, brought in daily and with expedience, have immediately improved conditions of isolation and deprivation, providing a means to communicate and engage FPCC’s network of supportive volunteers who are bringing aid to the area.
As we transition to recovery efforts, help is needed to provide temporary shelter (e.g., used campers, trailers, large communal tents where we can gather to eat and be safe from insects/pests) and to fund sustainable, resilient rebuilding that will provide long-term hurricane protection in the future.
Your donations support our work, which honors the traditional knowledge and wisdom of tribal members. We bring our ways of knowing together with cutting-edge scientific insights on disaster resilience to inform climate adaptation and recovery strategies for our communities and for our collective future as a human race.
