Eli's No-Shave for Men's Mental Health
If you've seen me without a mask recently, you might have noticed a thin smudge of dirt around my face. This is not dirt! I am growing what the kids these days are calling "facial hair," I'm just not any good at it. Luckily, I am not doing it for the purposes of my appearance, but in order to raise money. "No Shave November" started as a campaign to raise awareness for Prostate Cancer, but has expanded in several directions, the most important to me though is Men's Mental Health. Men make up more than three quarters (79%!) of all suicides, and are four times more likely than women to do so, and over six million men in the US are diagnosed with depression each year.
As a man who has both struggled with mental health issues in the past, and continue to do so now, this is a really important issue for me, and I decided that instead of not shaving as a joke this year, I was going to do something meaningful with it. For the whole month of November, I'm not going to shave or groom my facial hair at all. I'm asking you all to support me and the FaceIt Foundation in helping men across the country who struggle with Mental Health issues. I'm going to match every other dollar that is donated (so if you donate $10, I will donate $5)!
I'll update periodically with the progress of my "beard," here it is after 1 week!
