My name is Cameron, and I’ve been living with dystonia since 2015.

Every day is a challenge, something as simple as walking, writing, or even speaking clearly can become a struggle. Dystonia is a frustrating and often misunderstood neurological condition that causes involuntary muscle contractions, twisting, and abnormal postures, and yet, there is still no known cure.

That’s why I’m raising money for the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation. It's one of the leading organisations funding research to better understand dystonia and develop effective treatments. Their work gives me and thousands of others hope.

My goal is to help accelerate research so we can find a real cure by 2028–2029. That might sound ambitious, but with your help, it’s possible.

Your donation will go directly to DMRF’s work, supporting scientists, studies, and potential breakthroughs that could finally end the suffering caused by this condition.

The Evergreen Encore Foundation will be partnering with the Dystonia Medical Research Society to raise funds for dystonia research! Dystonia affects over 250,000 individuals in the United States alone; musicians are particularly prone to developing dystonia throughout their careers. Attend our fundraising concert on January 19th, 2025, at Northwest Pianos (5:00 PM) to experience an inspiring fundraising concert by talented high school musicians! From piano to viola to alto saxophone, we have it all! We hope to see you all there!

Help Me Make Every Mile Count for Dystonia Awareness and Research

Hi everyone,

In April 2025, I will finally be fulfilling a dream years in the making—running the Boston Marathon. In 2019, I was fortunate enough to qualify, but an injury just weeks before the race kept me from starting. Now, I am stronger, more determined than ever, and ready to conquer those 26.2 miles. But this time, I want to make it about more than just crossing the finish line.

While I train, I am raising funds for the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation (DMRF) to support individuals living with dystonia, a rare and often debilitating neurological disorder. Dystonia causes uncontrollable muscle contractions, leading to painful movements and postures. Treatments can be incredibly expensive, including medications, physical therapies, and, for some, deep brain stimulation (DBS)—a procedure that has transformed lives but remains financially out of reach for many.

This year brought new hope. The FDA recently approved a Humanitarian Device Exemption (HDE), expanding access to DBS for individuals with different forms of dystonia. This is a monumental step forward, but there is still so much work to do to ensure everyone who qualifies can afford this life-changing treatment.

I am trying to donate the money to the DMRF before the Boston Marathon (4/15/19) and represent the DMRF charity at the Marathon as well.

More information about Dystonia Medical Research Foundation: Dystonia is a debilitating movement disorder that prevents the brain and nervous system from functioning properly. Dystonia causes muscles in the body to contract or spasm involuntarily. The mission of the DMRF is to advance research for more treatments and ultimately a cure, to promote awareness and education, and to support the well being of affected individuals and families.

This is especially important to me because my sister Abby and I have both been diagnosed with Myoclonus Dystonia and our cases aren't nearly as severe as some of the cases we have seen at the Dystonia Symposium. We know how blessed we are to have more mild forms of Dystonia.

As a runner, I always ran just for a PR but now I want to also run to help those who can't and who won't fulfill their dreams in life as I live out one of mine this Spring.
