COVID-19: A Call To Action
We are call to make a difference in the life of someone once and sometimes more.
During this pandemic, Mexican Coalition is raising money to support the most vulnerable families in need. The stimulus package will support some, but many will be left to suffer deeper poverty and loneliness.
We need to raise funds to purchase 6 tablets to support our Health Promotoras who will be doing community outreach and connecting community members to neighborhood services. The tablets could also be tools for families to engage in other activities that could be beneficial to children in the home. Several of our Promotoras have said they don't have computers nor tablets to access supports for themselves.
Many undocumented families have asked us for help paying phone bills. This is very important since you know that the phone, at present, is their only connection to the outside world and for many the only sense of control in the uncontrollable conditions Covid-19 has caused. The phone is also the only connection they might have with family in their country of origin. Phone bills in general are $50.00.
Others are asking we provide essential workers (delivery persons, supermarket cashiers, deli workers) with masks and gloves so they "don't catch" the coronavirus and get their families sick too. These are unsung heros who keep those who can stay home alive by delivering food to our homes, stocking the supermarkets and stores we buy products. These are the new most dangerous jobs now.
Others are asking for rice, beans and tortillas...basic food items for so many Latin American immigrants who were purposely and cruelly left out of the stimulus package. They and their children will not get a check to help ease the torture this pandemic has caused.
Others are asking we help pay the very sad burden of funeral expenses. These expenses are nearly impossible for so many of our minimal-wage earners who are asked to pay over $4000 to cremate the body of a loved one who has died from the Coronavirus.
We are called to make a difference in the life of someone once, sometimes more. Please donate now and make a difference again. Part of your stimulus check could make all the difference in the world to an immigrant who has no other option but to seek our help.
The Mexican Coalition is tax exempt, as such your contribution will be tax deductible.
