Cecemmana Student of Color Scholarship Fund

$3,209 of $10,000 goal

Raised by 41 people in 5 months

This fundraiser is to raise money for our student of color scholarship fund at Ancestral Apothecary School of Herbal, Folk and Indigenous Medicine in Oakland, California.  We are specifically raising scholarship money for offer finacial assitance to students enrolled in our Cecemmana nine month herbalist training program.

Cecemmana is a word in Nahuatl, an indigenous language of Mexico, which means to plant seeds.   Cecemmana is dedicated to planting seeds in our diverse Bay Area communities for future generations of herbalists to grow and thrive.  We know that each herbalist we train will go out and serve their communities with the knowledge that they learn.

Many communities of color are still connected to their traditional herbal knowledge, although people of color are still unequally represented in herb school classrooms.  We launched this fundraising campaign to provide financial support to our students of color to help cover the cost of their herbal education.

In 2019 we will launch a second year of Cecemmana.  The cost of the program is $3250 per student.  We hope to raise enough money to offer scholarships of $500-$1000 to up to ten students.  We ask for your support to insure diversity in our classroom and that our herbal community reflects the true demographic of the Bay Area.

For more information about our Cecemmana, our other class offerings, and blogs by our advanced students, plesase visit our website at www.ancestralapothecaryschool.com.

Thank you!

Thank you to all our donors! We have raised enough money through this campaign as well as other efforts to be able to offer generous scholarships to several of our students of color. We appreciate your support to insure equity and diversity in our herbal training program.

Cecemmana classes started last month and we have fourteen amazing students, the majority of whom are students of color.

We will be closing this campaign shortly but will relaunch it again in the fall to begin fundraising for our 2020 class.

Here are some words from some of the scholarship recipients:

"Thank you from the depths of my heart for your donation. It has allowed me to continue deepening my herbal knowledge to support myself and my community. Ancestral Apothecary is like no other school encouraging us to connect with our own ancestral lineages." Cecemmana Year 2 Student

"Dear Sponsors: Your contribution to the scholarship fund for Ancestral Apothecary School has made it possible for me and my comrades to dive deep into the technologies and wisdom of our ancestors. You’ve made it possible for us to receive direct instruction, guidance and the tremendous knowledge of our teachers, Atava, Elokin and Tracey, and the gifts of their teachers and their teachers’ teachers. You’ve made it possible for us to find and embody the divine teacher within, to each steward our circles of guidance, and to access an extraordinary and premiere training in botanical medicine. THANK YOU for listening to the parts of yourself that knew this contribution was so vitally important to make. Thank you for supporting Black and Indigenous POC to illuminate the medicine in our communities, to bring closure and transformation out of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual states of illness and disease in our communities. You have watered seeds of innumerable legacy."
