Jewell House Emergency Shelter for at-risk females
Can you believe that youth age 12 to 17 are more at risk of homelessness than adults? And females make up 75% of runaways?
It may be hard to imagine but these shocking statistics are the reality that communities across the U.S face every day. Jewell House, a 24-hour Emergency and Transitional Living Shelter, is committed to provide care, hope and change for female youth in Northwest Louisiana. Jewell House is a live-in shelter that can house six females at a time. Many females that come to Jewell House have experienced some type of abuse. Our goal is to nurture, support, and provide a peaceful environment for them to begin the healing process. We have an urgent need; Our funding has been cut by more than $50,000.00, that’s a third of our operating budget. Despite financial hardship we will continue to push forward with our pledge to provide hope, care and change to the broken youth in our community. We provide services to homeless, throwaway, abused, neglected and female survivors of human trafficking. They are living on the street, moving from house to house, at risk of becoming homeless, in abusive situations, or in the juvenile justice system. Homelessness and/or instability in the home can have a devastating and lifetime impact on a youth’s mental and physical health, their educational opportunities, their social lives and their future.
Your help today is a start to making our community better for generations to come. Jewell House has been in operation since 2008. It’s operated by Youth Outreach Services, a 501 c3 nonprofit organization in Shreveport, LA.
