Generational Relief in Prosthetics

Generational Relief in Prosthetics (GRiP) at the University of Florida exists to assemble and provide free, assistive devices for children and teens with upper limb differences. As our organization continues to expand rapidly, we have utilized unique approaches to provide affected children with task-oriented devices at no cost.

Via 3D printing technology, we produce devices tailored to each recipient's necessities. Over the past two years, we have successfully provided 20 children with prosthetic devices. Within this semester alone, GRiP has 11 recipient device requests, 4 ongoing projects, and 3 research teams!

GRiP was originally funded through a small grant provided by UF Smathers Libraries. However, our exponential growth in projects and membership has stretched our resources thin as we continue to provide free, assistive devices to recipients.

As a result, our goal is to raise $2,000 in order to open a tax-deductible Student Organization account with the University of Florida’s Department of Biomedical Engineering. This next step would permit the resources to pursue business sponsorships, in order to continue changing the lives of children affected with upper limb disorders.

No matter the size of donation, your contribution will significantly aide in providing the essential resources necessary to continue building low cost devices for in-need children.

Additionally, we have research teams working with 3D-scanning to improve the prosthetics’ methodology and muscle sensors to link devices to muscle movement.

Every child deserves to do the things they love. Whether it’s playing with instruments, video games, or toys, children should be allowed to just be kids, not always patients. We hope our mission will enlighten you to donate today!
