As many of you know I have used GoFundMe on two separate occasions to financially assist me from ending up as a person experiencing homelessness. While I did eventually become homeless for 27 days and lived in a transitional housing facility for 10 months; each dollar you donated helped me tremendously. I am gratefully blessed to all of you for your generosity, support, unconditional love and kindness.
Thanks to your efforts, the gifts from you, complete strangers and the support of friends and family, I am now almost completely self sufficient. My journey from a person experiencing homelessness to re-integration has been a long, arduous and tumultuous experience. Nonetheless, I celebrate that above all, I have triumphed and prevailed. I am thriving and very much alive and well.
Now I am on to the next phase of my life by launching my new business, The Power To Be EPIC. The acronym that I created for EPIC is two fold; Extraordinary Person In Creation and Extraordinary Person In Crisis. The point being is that we are all capable of being EPIC whether in creation or crisis, regardless of either, we can still be extraordinary by doing extraordinary things and living extraordinary lives.
The Power To Be EPIC is a for profit business endeavor offering Professional Life Coaching, Personal Training and Business Consulting as well as art shows, writing, editing and storytelling workshops. While these are the services we will offer, we are more than our services and are driven by altruism and advocacy towards people who are experiencing poverty or homelessness.

Once we begin turning a profit, 20% of the net profits will be donated to a yet to be determined non profit whom I believe is creating the biggest impact and achieving the most results towards ending chronic homelessness.
Building upon my first entrepreneurial endeavor in Washington, DC in 1993 by launching my personal training company, Mind Your Own Body, The Power To Be EPIC will be an expansion of Mind Your Own Body with the addition of several other services. In 2002, I became a Professional Life Coach and from 2010 through 2013, I was the Health and Fitness Columnist for the Washington, Blade, the Nations premier LGBT newspaper. In addition to life coaching I also offer business consulting for personal trainers and life coaches with an emphasis on branding, marketing and business development.
On August 8, 2015, I debuted as a featured artist at Wet Paint Gallery, for the first time in my artistic career.
In 2016, I am planning 7 art shows for the year. I dubbed my first show last August, Plastic Springs Eternal Bliss in which all the material I worked with was recyclable plastic that I personally collected on the streets of Washington, DC, particularly in Deanwood in Ward 7 where I reside.
My first art show scheduled for 2016 will be in April. The show is called Spring Recycled: Transforming Addiction Into Art. Every single piece of art you will see in the show are one of a kind pieces all made from recyclable material that I once again found on the streets of Washington, DC. Each piece is an artistic representation of the 5 top addictions in the United States.
Every recyclable material I use directly correlates to one of those addictions. In order of addictions they are: Food, Nicotine, Alcohol, Prescription Medication and Illegal Drugs. Each piece of art will be transformed and unrecognizable as the original addiction it represents.
Washington, DC is number one for alcohol and cocaine addiction and number four for marijuana addiction. Washington, DC also ranks among the top most obese cities in the United States.
All the art shows I will present in 2016 will work to change the way we look at addictions AND alter the course of recycling in Washington, DC. Recycling is a failed program and it costs the DC government over one million dollars to maintain the program. This does not include the cost to DC Taxpayers or the environmental toll the pollution and recyclable materials have on the environment.
The Power To Be EPIC is a boutique style health, fitness and wellness personal and professional development collaborative. We will begin with what we know well by offering one on one and group Personal Training, Professional Life Coaching, outdoor boot camp classes, self defense, martial arts and art shows. As we grow our collaborative our team of experts will will offer writing and storytelling workshops, art classes, mentoring, editing and small business consulting.
The initial GoFundMe goal of $6,000 will be used strictly as seed money and start up costs to cover the litany of expenses necessary to establish The Power To Be EPIC as a viable profit making endeavor. My office and art studio will remain in my home to cut down on expenses. Once we raise enough funds to fully establish TPTBE, our next step will be two fold.
Launch a Kickstarter campaign for additional financing towards securing a mixed use business location which will house a personal training center, group exercise studio, business and coaching office space, an art studio, art gallery and retail area selling local art from featured artists.
In addition to our Kickstarter goal we will approach WACIF for a business loan.

WACIF is the Washington Area Community Investment Fund. This non profit organization supports budding entrepreneurs who because of various reasons cannot secure a standard bank loan.
WACIF essentially believe in you when others don't and provide financial assistance, when banks are not willing to make the investment or take a risk. When banks say no WACIF is where you go. In addition, The Power To Be EPIC will be searching for private investors as well who will own stock in the company based on the number of shares purchased.
