The heartbreaking fires that have devastated California are weighing heavy on the GoFundMe team. As of Thursday 11/15, the Camp Fires alone, have taken over 140,000 acres and are only 40% contained, costing the lives of 56 people. Over 8,800 structures have been destroyed, including 7,600 single family homes, evacuating 52,000 with over 13,000 people in shelters. Many families are sheltered in structures while many are staying in tents in the Walmart parking lot.

This hits close to home for many of us but especially for one of our friends and colleagues, Brittany. Paradise is her hometown, and her family and friends have lost everything. In Brittany’s words:

"It’s hard to find the words to describe Paradise - how do you describe home? I grew up there, and many of the people I know and love remained there long after I moved away. Paradise is not your average city. Unlike many places, this community of people decided that no matter how much it grew, they wanted the community to stay the same. Instead of incorporating as a city, Paradise branded itself as a town, and you can still see that camaraderie today. The vast majority of residents were devastated by this fire, yet you can find them out at shelters working together to help others in need. People don’t have anything, yet they are giving everything. It’s a community of loving caring individuals working hard together trying to piece their lives back together. Despite having lost the infrastructure, the heart and soul of town live on through the people."

We’ve seen the GoFundMe community come together to help those affected by the Camp Fires in many communities like Paradise. Our Bay Area Women@GoFundMe group wants to offer additional support to these communities, and we’re working with the Direct Impact Fund to raise funds for supplies for survivors.

The Direct Impact Fund is an independent 501(c)(3) charity which disburses grants with efficiency at or above 96%.  Together with the Direct Impact Fund, Women@GoFundMe volunteers will provide direct relief, buying and delivering much needed supplies to people, shelters and organizations helping on the ground.

Below is a list of some of the essentials your donations will provide.
• Undergarments
• Socks
• Clothes
• Coats
• Blankets

*Donations made to this campaign will be tax-deductible to U.S. donors (EIN 81-2279757), and your tax receipt will be emailed to you.

Additionally, the GoFundMe team has seen over time that in addition to supplies themselves, knowing that donors far and wide want to help is a comfort to people experiencing crisis.

Thank you for showing survivors they have support, and please help us by spreading the word and sharing this GoFundMe: www.gofundme.com/CampFireSurvivors  We’ll regularly update campaign to share our progress with you.

On the eve of Thanksgiving, we are so grateful for all of you. We are halfway to our goal! THANK YOU ALL for your incredible generosity!

Brittany was able to take up the first carload of supplies last weekend to those displaced and staying in Chico. She passed out blankets, coats and supplies to people camping in the parking lot of Walmart, including a woman with a baby only a couple months old. Everyone was incredibly grateful to get the supplies. We also dropped off supplies at a few shelters and orgs including: Chico Church of Nazarene, Alpha Strong, Chico Airport Emergency Animal Shelter to name a few.

We spoke to all of the shelters and charities and at this time they are using the holiday weekend to organize what they have and determine what else they need. That said we are waiting to bring up the next load until after the holidays. Please note, in addition to supplies we are bringing up, we are also planning on getting gift cards for families to use locally as they rebuild their lives. We are in constant communication with multiple charities, shelters, organizations and survivors to determine what is needed most and will continue to update this campaign with the latest, but funds are still needed.

Thank you again for all of you who have already donated. Please continue to share this campaign so we can continue to raise money to help those in need. Remember Giving Tuesday (11/27) is also coming up if people are looking to donate.

THANK YOU & Happy Thanksgiving!!
