Anthony & Jill: Hope to start a family post-cancer
Beschermde donatie
October, 2020
Hi everyone, thank you for visiting our site here. We hope and pray that you are all happy and healthy as can be during the challenging times of this pandemic, and that you continue to stay safe with your loved ones.
Our names are Jill Parshley-Cardillo and Anthony Cardillo Jr. This fundraiser is to help us raise funds for IVF treatments (InVitro Fertilization- see definition below), and potential adoption and foster care.
Anthony endured chemotherapy years ago, which affected his ability to have children naturally. That treatment, however, gratefully also saved his life; thank God he is a two-time germinoma brain cancer survivor, cured of cancer now for 17 years.
There are many alternate roads to starting a family. Each method is very expensive. Instead of giving up hope, we started this fundraising campaign. We've read other endearing stories here on GoFundMe, which have inspired us to carry on. We pray that all of the GoFundMe campaign goals on this site get met, so that their dreams, along with ours, can come true.
We are so thankful to all of Anthony's family and friends who supported him through those trying times when he fought hard and survived cancer in 1996 & 2004, at age 19 and 27 years old. We've been married a little over 7 years now, time is flying and the clock is ticking, yet Anthony still reminds me to look on the bright side and never give up HOPE! We are grateful to my family and friends as well for supporting us through the challenges we've faced together on our journey starting a family.
Many of the private messages we received so far have been very encouraging and generous- offering donations, suggestions, advice, and personal experiences- thank you!
The money we've raised on this site in the last few years, and separate gifts from family and friends, have given us opportunities for doctors visits, hormone therapy, consults, research, tests, medicine and 2 IUI's - (see definition below). Though the IUI's were unsuccessful, we are excited to continue this journey towards parenthood by taking our doctor's current advice and moving forward with IVF. If that is unsuccessful, then we hope to move forward with adopting or fostering children.
Part of life is happiness, and for some of us, part of that happiness embodies raising children together. Passing on your love, family values, service, wisdom, hope, and spirit to your child is a part of parenthood. One of the many gifts of being a parent is guiding your child, biological or not, through our beautiful maze of a world with all of its challenges, and helping them to leave our world a better place than when they arrived. Anthony and I love children, and we hope and pray for the day we can experience this miracle of life and parenthood by starting a family together exploring all alternative methods.

Definitions:
Germinoma brain cancer: This is “a rare cancer of the germ cells, which is the tissue that normally differentiates to become the eggs or sperm cells” according to Medicinenet.com.
(IUI) Intrauterine insemination: A procedure in which a fine catheter (tube) is inserted through the cervix (the natural opening of the uterus) into the uterus (the womb) to deposit a sperm sample directly into the uterus. The purpose of IUI is to achieve fertilization and pregnancy. IUI is a relatively simple procedure. It can be done with a partner's sperm or frozen dethawed cleaned donor sperm "Intrauterine" is within the uterus. "Insemination" is from "in-" + "semen," seed = seed in. So, "intrauterine insemination" = seed in the uterus.
(IVF) Fertilization, in vitro: IVF, a laboratory procedure in which sperm are placed with an unfertilized egg in a Petri dish to achieve fertilization. The embryo is then transferred into the uterus to begin a pregnancy or cryopreserved (frozen) for future use. IVF was originally devised to permit women with damaged or absent Fallopian tubes to have a baby. Normally a mature egg is released from the ovary (ovulated), then enters the Fallopian tube, and waits in the neck of the tube for a sperm to fertilize it. With defective Fallopian tubes, this is not possible.
