On March 5, 2024, my beautiful, kind, loving and immaculately behaved whippet - Willow - lost her life to suspected Alabama Rot following a brave battle against the disease which lasted almost a month.

Willow was treated at Anderson Moores Veterinary Specialists in Winchester and had been discharged after returning to an appropriate level of health following 10 days of intensive treatment. Sadly, she had to be readmitted after swelling around her lungs affected her ability to breathe. She passed away peacefully shortly after.

Her passing has completely devastated me, and she made an impact on my life in four short years which will truly last a lifetime. I'll miss her everyday.

Alabama Rot first appeared in the UK in 2012. Since then, only 318 cases have been confirmed with affected dogs having only a 10% chance of survival. It damages blood vessels in the skin and kidneys.

Currently there is no proven treatment or cure.

The Alabama Rot Research Fund aims to raise much-needed funds to help find a cure and awareness of the disease. Although devastating, this experience has motivated me to do everything in my control to raise as much as possible.
