Hey Team, family and friends;

This is Alberto Da Silva (Coach Berto) and owner of Marra Senki JJ in Panama City and Mat Shark JJ in Port Saint Joe.

As I’m sure you already all know from our Facebook feeds that our schools were destroyed and our home severely damaged during this horrific storm.

We want to rebuild. But to rebuild we’ll have to start from the bottom up. My home will need new walls, flooring, fence, windows, roof, and items and furniture that were destroyed during the storm. Our school will need mats, weights, uniforms, rash guards, new floating mat floors, and other equipment for us to teach and train our craft. We’ll also need to compete for a new location as locations in the devastation area gets rebuilt. Which means deposits, new street signs, moving expense of what we may be able to recover and salvage, and the man power to do it. This is overwhelming and I can’t do it alone.

The first time we built, it started in a little space with mats I was given as a gift. We grew and become a team. And now this event, we weren’t ready for.

All the funds donated will be used to help our family get back on our feet in order for us to revive our team again. Your donations will help us secure a living space that we can work from to begin to fix our home and acquire all tools, mats, and workout equipment we’ll need to reopen a new gym for our team.

Our first goal is to find a place to sleep for the next few months instead of having to bounce from hotel to hotel or live inside a hazard zone with our child and dogs.

If you can, please donate and or share our campaign. Any little bit will help us greatly during these difficult times everyone here is having.

Hurricane Michael washed away many things for all of us. We’re happy our family is safe and sound, we’re grateful that everyone in our team is safe. We will rebuild with your help.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Hey everyone it’s Coach Berto here.

It’s been over 6 weeks since the hurricane and there’s plenty of good news and bad news to go around. However, with all the help we have received and the help we have given ourselves we’ve been able to make some great strides towards getting back to some kind of normal.

The bad. Insurance has done nothing to help us. Our home is trashed, both business gone.

However, the good news is starting to outweigh the fact that we are starting from zero again. Thanks to all our friends and loved ones this process is working itself one little bit at a time.

Here’s some good news list.
Your help has
* Facilitated us getting a place to live
* Facilitated us in recovering as much as we could from our home and one of the gyms
* Facilitated us in purchasing some basic essentials like a beds to sleep on
* kept us with a roof over our heads while we were bouncing around the first few weeks
* Facilitated us in finding a new gym location in Panama City Florida
* Facilitated us in paying for part of the roof this new gym facility needs

Since the beginning of November and once we found a steady place to live. I’ve also found a new job in my profession of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu working with Alpha Fitness. And they have been kind enough to donate some much needed equipment for our new gym once it gets built.

So all-in-all things are slowly getting better. We’re still a long way from being where we were but I don’t think that’s the goal anymore. The goal is to simply get a roof on the new building and mats on the ground.

Here’s a small list of final things we are still working on.

* Moving our custom BJJ sign from the destroyed building to the new building ($1750), license and electrical work needed
* Building a restroom in the new building ($1300)
* New Outside lights and light poles ($600)
* Mat Base Structure ($1200)

Thank you all for everything. Every little bit helps us get back to normal quicker and stronger.

Soon enough Marra Senki Panama City will have a home again.

Morning. This is Alberto here. I think we all wish we could say this battle is over. It isn’t. It’s far from it. Over a month after Hurricane Michael and like most people in this mess we still have no idea what our futures will be like. We thought we did the right thing like most people and had all our things insured, home and both martial arts schools. Apparently, that doesn’t really matter. By law we have to pay insurance, but they don’t have to really pay us back when something like this happens.

In other words we all pay for a false sense of security.

So, far the donations has kept us from being homeless and completely lost in this mess. We were able to move and find a home that doesn’t rain on the inside. We were able to rent a truck and save some of our equipment.

We were also able to find a building in need of repairs that we can move our BJJ school into. Your help has assisted us this far in getting the ball rolling in the right direction. Thank you!

Looks like that old part of my life is over. What We’ve had, no longer is, it’s now what it was.

Left the keys, closed the doors and had our final moments of goodbye.
Last day. Required safety evictions.
