Catos Final Surgery
Back story- 3 years ago someone dropped off a kitten on our property. I named him Cato and we fed him and he was super cuddly and loving but we were afraid to bring him inside because our 3 inside cats might hurt him (boy do i regret that decision now) He disappeared several times but always came back fat so I figured he had another home. Then he disappeared for about 6 months. It was Christmas day and I said to my mom "I wish I could just know that he's okay." And he showed up that day and spent Christmas with me. He disappeared again and I didn't see him again until about 2 years later, at the beginning of April. He was very injured, his eye gone, a hole in his face, and a gash on his shoulder. We got him to the vet as soon as we could (2 hours drive) They said it was such a miracle he was alive and doing so well with such a horrible injury to his face. While they were examining him with me there they pulled a small metal fragment from his wound. They told me the plan for him that day was to: Do basic blood tests, Test for Feline Leukemia and FIV, Put him under to stitch up his shoulder, Neuter him, Clean up his facial wound and have a surgeon examine it, and Vaccinate for rabies I then left him there and tried to keep down my lunch with all the stress. They called me a while later and though I opted not to get an x ray they said their curiosity from the metal fragment was too great so they did an x ray anyways (didn't charge me). They found several more metal fragments in his head and determined he had been shot, likely by a .22. I'm so upset that someone would shoot a sweet kitty. And with the shot straight through his eye I know the person had to be aiming at him. What kind of evil does that The total bill that day was $892.77, I was able to put it on credit and am working on paying that off. I've been back to the vet about a dozen times since then for followups, stitch removal and bandage changes. I paid these out of pocket to the tune of around $700. Today (6/6/18) I took him in to see the surgeon ($95) who gave me a quote for his final surgery. Including the blood work, anesthesia, and enucleation surgery the low estimate is $2445.80 I dont even have enough credit to pay that and am in tears about it. I decided to ask for help so he can have this surgery to remove the damaged eye and close his wound. Without the surgery he has to wear his cone and have an open wound and all the dangers that come with that such as risk of infection. My little guy has been so tough and healing so well, I am so proud of him and really want to do this final surgery for him to be 100% back to normal, well minus an eye.
