In April, my aunt, whom we were renting from, was killed on her way to work in a head-on collision caused by a drunk driver. Due to an unrelated emergency, in June, our grandsons (3 & 5) and their dad moved in with us.
My aunt’s death has uncovered a lot of unforseen financial problems. Among other debts accrued due to her being scammed out of hundreds of thousands of dollars, this includes the bank threatening to foreclose on the house we are in. The bottom line being that we need to come up with a minimum of $600 by the 20th, and another $600 by the 5th, plus utility bills, just to avoid foreclosure and being out of a home with two small children. Once our heads are above water, maintaining is doable, it’s just unexpected costs and having no savings due to our household more than doubling in size. (And two growing boys can EAT!)
