Caroline has had her surgery. So far she is doing okay. She really needs our support and help from everyone. The bills that she has to pay are crazy. Living away from her home in Kelowna, staying in Vancouver in a very small apt, the cost of food, taxis, medical supplies, the list just keeps growing is so expensive, Carolyn is a single mom with one daughter. She is facing the challenge of her life. She will be off work for around two years, which will be a challenging time for her and her daughter. In today's society we have hard enough times as is, but when you are faced with the challenging life that Carolyn has been up against, hopefully we can all find it in our hearts to help such a kind, sweet and very caring lady as well as provide for her daughter to get back to school supplies and clothes for the upcoming school year.
Here is her story; I am a 43 year old single mom. I was diagnosed when I was 10 months old with type 1 juvenile diabetes. After 43 years of problems it has now affected my kidneys. Despite much effort I am now in renal failure having severe non symptomatic low blood sugar levels causing unconsciousness resulting in hospitalization and doctors have told me that the best option for me is to receive the transplant sooner than later as with the increase of these non-symptomatic lows in the middle of the night there is a higher rate of mortality. The Kidney failure has caused loss of energy, and a lot of physical and mental fatigue. Some days I have a hard time finding the energy to get through the day. I often don’t feel well enough to socialize or enjoy time with my family. My food choices are very limited especially with both Diabetes and Kidney restrictions and as well fluid intake is restricted.
Doctors have told me with the live kidney transplant symptoms would be relieved and eventually allow me to a normal way of life again and then be placed on a transplant pancreas list a year later which would then slowly reverse some of my Diabetic complications such as Gastro paresis, Neuropathy and no longer require insulin injections, blood monitoring and food restrictions.
I am not done with the fight yet. I have too much to live for: my loving 11 year old daughter who only has me as her dad left when she was only 5 years old. It is my greatest wish to live to see her on her Graduation day/Wedding day and see her grow into the amazing young woman I know she will become.
Humbly, I am asking if you or anyone you know might be willing to be tested as a potential living donor. Living donor transplants represent the best opportunity for positive long term outcomes, and provided I am able to find a suitable match, my medical team is confident this surgery is my greatest chance for living a longer, healthier life.
I’ve learned kidney donors are able to live normal and healthy lives with just one kidney. Donors are carefully medically screened to make sure it is safe for them to donate a kidney. The transplant team makes the donor’s health and well - being a priority. Donors do not have to be a relative to step forward or even have the same blood type.

I realize that donating a kidney is an incredibly generous act as well as a major sacrifice. I wish that I did not have to ask anyone to make such a sacrifice, but I am incredibly grateful that this option exists for my daughter and I.
This will be my hardest journey in life. Trying to not only find a donor, but to have enough financial means for myself and my daughter as we will have to live away from home for around 4 months. So please if you can find it in heart to help, we would truly appreciate it.
