Baby Holden

Donation protected
One morning, at just 7 weeks old, Holden started having trouble breathing. Once in the emergency room the hospital staff quickly learned that Holden was losing blood internally and was at deaths door. Holden was airlifted to the nearest pediatric ICU and underwent exploratory surgery that night with no luck in finding the location of the bleeding. Doctors removed 1 quart of blood from his abdomen that night and he was put on a ventilator and kept in a coma for comfort. After 2 more days of bleeding the doctors knew they had to go back in and try to find what was missed. What they found is very rare and puzzling, Holden had a cyst filled with digestive enzymes on his pancreas. This cyst had ruptured spilling these highly acidic enzymes into his abdomen and caused his pancreas to become so inflamed that it was actively bleeding during the 2nd surgery. The bleeding was stopped, the ruptured area of pancreas was walled off, and central line IV's were put in. IV nutrition was started, feeding tube was put in, and day by day blood work was done to see if he could start getting formula again. Unfortunately when the doctors felt he might could tolerate feeding, he started vomiting. Feedings were stopped for a day and the feeding tube was advanced from his stomach on down into his small intestines and when feeding resumed his lab work went sky high. This week Holden started running a fever and his heart rate went very high. Blood cultures came back showing that Holden now has a staph infection in his bood also know as sepsis. Now baby Holden is once again in a fight for his life! The doctors also believe he may have aspirated bile into his lungs when he has spit up or vomited so he is once again on high flow oxygen. After careful consideration Holden's mommy (Angie) and daddy (Richard) have decided it is best to have him transferred to a childrens hospital with more specialist. Holden's mommy and daddy have not left the hospital in the 4 weeks that he has been there. They are not working due to the critical state of Holden's health and that is why we have decided to set up this page to help them. My name is Miranda and I am Holden's aunt and Angie's sister. As many of you may already know, it is very hard to miss work and still be able to eat and live. Please help us take some of the stress off of these wonderful parents by giving them running money for food, gas, to wash their laundry, and to pay their bills. I wasn't sure about setting a goal because the doctors say if Holden lives then it can be weeks or months before he is well enough to go home. I will be taking care of this page and making sure that Richard and Angie get every donation that is made, whether it is 1 penny or 20 dollars, every little bit helps. If you can't donate for Holden then please remember this wonderful family in your prayers. Thank you so much!
