Supporting the Arts – The Art Tramp

Donation protected
I was inspired by my mom who overcame polio and said these words to me before she died a few years ago... "Take the chance and follow your dream".

From early childhood I have had a passion for all forms of art. My grandmother taught me many forms of needlework and sewing. I also learned to weave Shaker baskets, paint and draw, sculpt and eventually found myself in a graphic design career for over three decades. My love of Design, History, Antiques and Folk Art led me to start collecting. When I first saw a piece of Tramp Art I knew I had found something special. The level of details, the simple tools and the materials used by the craftsmen who made these pieces of “Tramp Art” intrigued me. Each piece seemed to have a soul, a story to tell and a warmth that only comes from something made by one’s own hands. The first pieces I created were given to friends as Christmas presents. In 2013, I decided to follow my dream of becoming a self-taught folk artist. Making each piece is a labor of love and can contain as many as 200-300 individually hand-cut and carved pieces of wood. “I have found my true calling.”

In the six years I have devoted to this my work has been published in "Early American Life" and I was selected as one of the top Artisans in that same publication. I was also contacted by the American Folk Art Museum and The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation were several of my pieces were sold through their museum shop. I have also had my work included in a major museum exhibit entitled "No Idle Hands: The Myths and Meanings of Tramp Art" at the International Folk Art Museum.

I am looking for funding to buy supplies so I can keep creating more pieces. I also need to attend a few of the top Folk Art Shows so that I can gain more exposure for my work and transform this dream into a reality. These shows can cost as much as $800 just for the booth/space and then there are the expenses involved with travel, food, lodging, folding tables, table covers, brochures and/or postcards, etc.

It takes a lot to get this type of business off the ground and so I hope yu will consider donating to this effort. All I know is that when I create each piece it nourishes my heart, mind and soul more then anything I have ever done before.

I invite you to take a look at my work by visiting my website at www.thearttramp.com . I was also a member of a juried artists website (American Artists) which has since been disbanded.  There is also an artists page on Facebook, www.facebook.com/ArtTramp .

Thank you for your interest in my Tramp Art. I need your help to continue my growth and success! The Tramp Art pieces I create are one-of-a-kind works of art and I would love for more people to experience them!
