Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge

Three weeks ago I signed up for the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, taking place on Saturday, July 4th 2015.
25 miles, 5200ft to climb, 10-12 hours of walking.
Some would say I am totally unfit to be taking on this challenge and they wouldn't be wrong. However, I have done some preparation at weekends but more importantly, I am motivated to complete it. So, why am I doing it.
I am undertaking this challenge in memory of our wonderful sons, Chris and Steve. As many of you will know they both tragically died of Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (S.A.D.S) before either of them reached their 30th Birthday.
Recently Jane and I were invited to visit the M&S distribution centre in Bradford where Steve worked. As you can imagine it was emotional. They told us that they had chosen C.R.Y. as one of their charities of the year in memory of Steve and that they had decided to make the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge an annual event. They have named it The Steve Phillips Memorial Walk. We were inspired by the people that worked with Steve and the fund raising they were doing to raise awareness of SADS. They obviously thought a great deal of our son.
C.R.Y is an amazing charity that has helped us in so many ways. They provide support from the very moment that you get the devastating news that your child has died suddenly. They can fast track an autopsy on a heart by a specialist consultant, they fast track screening for surviving family members, provide bereavement counselling and a very big part is providing screening for children aged 14-35.
If I can raise some money it will go towards C.R.Y’s screening programme for 14-35 year olds. Shockingly, every week 12 young people die of S.A.D.S. and unofficially this figure is closer to 16. This screening can identify many of the conditions that cause these sudden deaths.
We hope that by supporting the tireless efforts of C.R.Y. we can help to prevent other parents going through the heartache of losing a child
