The Rookie Project

Donation protected
This is Lewis Robinson, aka Rookie, and here is his story.

1995 Accident – He is struck and left in a ditch by a hit and run driver while jogging on Bannerman Road. A severed spinal cord left him a quadriplegic with limited use of his hands. After some time, Rookie comes to terms with his life changing situation and forgives the driver. He knows the Lord has a plan for him, and he embraces every day as an opportunity to make someone smile.

Years go by and routine sets in with family members passing away and his support circle diminishing.  He becomes a prisoner of his 12 x 12 bedroom, stuck in a medical airbed.

2018 –  Rookie’s 1987 mobile home is in desperate need of repair.   There is no central heat or air. In the summer, window units work hard to keep the building cool. Space heaters are used in the winter, often overloading circuits and tripping breakers. The bathroom is not large enough or properly configured to accommodate Lewis in a wheelchair. The roof leaks, and the floor has structural problems. There are a number of other repairs and upgrades needed in order for Lewis to live safely and relatively comfortable in his home.

This is where we need your help:

Goal
– $20,000 completes the entire rebuild

Who benefits:    Lewis “Rookie” Robinson – North Tallahassee/Leon County

What does Rookie need:    His mobile home is in desperate need of repair and upgrades.  We have volunteers skilled in making most of the repairs, but we need money to buy material and equipment to make his home safe, accessible, and able to support Lewis Robinson who is a quadriplegic.

What will $20,000 accomplish:

AC/Heat – (Est. $4000) - AC and Heat system.  Professional installation required.

Bring electrical service up to standards – (Est. $1500) - new/larger service panel, secure and improve outlets and lighting fixtures.  Professional installation has been volunteered.

Enlarge Lewis’s bedroom – (Est. $500) - make it accessible with enough room for medical staff and social service personnel to work with Lewis.  Labor free

Insulation – (Est $1500) – Insulation for subfloor and attic.  Labor free

ADA Bathroom/Shower – (Est $2000) – build a useful ADA shower to accommodate his needs.  Labor free

Septic Drainfield – (Est $2500) Professional installation required.

Siding -  (Est. $2500) - siding, insulation, caulk, paint.  Labor free

Flooring repairs – (Est. $350 materials)  Labor free

New Metal Roof – (Est. $5000) Professional installation required.

Please help our community shine by supporting our effort to make another life change for this loving man.  His spirit and love is contagious.  Thank you!
