Uptown Greensboro Public Art Space

My name is jOseph Wilkerson and I was the gallery owner of Uptown Artworks here in Greensboro, NC. I've created a number of local arts projects in the past from film festivals to producer competitions to an urban themed magazine.


I recently closed the gallery and I'm currently in talks to relocate to a larger space. The new building is much larger and in need of some additional work to transform it into not only a space for artist to craft their next masterpiece, but also a live performance venue unlike anything currently offer in the city.  It has a fenced in back lot, large enough to build a stage for live outdoor performanceses and  I would also like to build up around the fence line, some 10' - 15' high walls to invite artist to practice and produce mural projects. This outdoor space will also need a few patio pieces for seating, a pa system and additional electrical components.

Inside will need to have some sheetrock work, lighting fixtures, ceiling fans, ventilation, new exterior doors, performance stage, chairs, tables, and easels for the classroom portion as well as a refrigerator and microwave for the kitchen. A table saw purchase would also be a great addition for both teaching proper operation, as well as building mixed media art and custom frames.


When it comes to revitalizing a community, the arts is a major component to the process. I believe that so much so, that it's the reason I opened the gallery space. Not everyone wants to go to the club every weekend and every kid doesn't want to be a rapper, sports star, or attorney. I'd like to provide a space here in Uptown Greensboro that allows like-minded creative souls to mix, mingle, network, learn, create, and be inspired!
