Water for the Homestead

Welcome everyone and let me give a big thank you to anyone who chooses to help us reach our goal!

For a long time my husband and I dreamt of leaving city life behind and moving the country. The reasons for this are many but among them was the desire to know where our food is coming from and to provide a better life for our kids. So five years ago we moved onto six acres of land and began our homesteading dream.

The land we purchased was raw with no infrastructure. There were no buildings, no running water, and no electricity. We bought a 12x30 ft shed that we converted into a tiny home and quickly got the power hooked up. Water, however, has been another challenge.

We have a well that had been dug prior to our moving here but we do not have a pump. So, for the last 5 years I have brough water home almost daily to provide for our potable water needs. We built a torpedo bucket out of PVC pipe and we are able to draw water out of the well for the garden or our animals but we have not used this water for household use due to the fact that the well is not capped and we cannot keep bacteria out of it.

In Feburary of this year my husband had a large heart attack. The heart attack was significant and has left him limited in what he can do physically. Due to these changes we felt that it may be time to ask for some help. To have running water here on the homestead would make our lives incredibly easier.

We have wanted to get a pump since we first moved here but it has proven to be cost prohibitive especially when dealing with all of the little emergencies that pop up in life. The over all cost that we have been quoted before was around $1800. I would like to raise $2500 to help cover the cost of building the well house as well.

We take for granted the simple luxury of being able to turn on a faucet and have fresh, clean water. This is doubly missed on a homestead where having access to running water can make many tasks much simpler when it comes to maintaining water for your livestock and watering a garden. Anything that is donated will be greatly appreciated!

This one of the many things that's a pain about bringing home water everyday. There were 2 trucks parked in front of the spout so I had to carry both 5 gallon coolers a little farther today.

This is how I have brought water home every day for the last 5 years. To be honest, I'm ready for a change. So far we have raised $100 so anything anyone can do to help is greatly appreciated!

This is the goal. To get a pump so we can go outside our front door and get water. I can't tell you what a wonderful thing that would be.
