Nepal Fundraiser - Growth Mindset

Donation protected
In July this year I'll be partaking in a volunteering program organized by HCIIN, a not for profit organization in Kathmandu, Nepal and Rumi Souls, an Australian social venture.

HCIIN runs an online learning program aimed at empowering and upskilling underpriveleged teachers and students in Kathmandu Nepal, through a project based, group work program that develops entrepeneurial skills. Rumi Souls is working in conjunction with HCIIN, to develop teachers and students from local schools in Nepal to improve educational outcomes, establish a strong entrepreneurial eco-system, and help develop the leaders of tomorrow to ensure Nepalese communities thrive well into the future.

My part in the project involves travelling to 5 schools near Kathmandu with the project organisers, to guide and support the teachers and students through their online learning program. We will provide technological resources such as laptops, software programs and internet access. Working in groups, students will explore the real problems they encounter each day; they test & discover ways to solve a problem that is sustainable, viable, feasible and desirable to a target market.

At the end of the program and once students have built their prototype, they will present their projects to their schools, local communities and local government represenatives. The presentations will be assessed by a panel comprised of the project organizers and the BAcc Program Director, with successful students to be given monetary scholarships to continue their schooling and obtain vital resources that are currently underprovided and financially inaccessible in these remote Nepalese communities.

I'd appreciate your financial sponsorship of the project. All funds raised will be used to provide financial scholarships to students in the program, obtain software licenses for students to undertake the project on their laptops and basic schooling needs such as stationary and classroom equipment.

My employer EY, have generously donated laptops for me to take to the schools for students and teachers to use for their projects and keep for future use.  Refer below for further details on what else we're providing to schools and students as a part of the program.

"Your Support Will Help Katt & Bikalpa Empower Teachers and Inspire Students in Nepal To Be All That They Can Be.

Our programs blend online learning with face to face workshops in Kathmandu.  The aim of the online teacher training program is for teachers to see the value of their profession, and the enormous influence and impact they have on their students.  We show teachers the positive effects of taking a growth mindset approach in the classroom. In the follow up workshop with the teachers, we demonstrate ways that project based learning; design thinking and creativity can help prepare students for the 21st Century.  We show how project based learning, design thinking and creativity connects with being a successful entrepreneur at our student workshop - Connecting Growth Mindset to Entrepreneurship.

Connecting growth mindset to entrepreneurship, shows students how to see problems as opportunities.   Working in groups, students explore the real problems they encounter each day; they test & discover ways to solve a problem that is sustainable, viable, feasible and desirable to a target market.  The students build a prototype, and pitch their ideas to a panel.

As we provide ongoing support to the teachers and students in Nepal, our program is a huge undertaking, but with your help, we can work with more schools, teachers and students in 2018 & 2019!

What we need to continue our work:
- Go to Nepal in July and visit 5 more schools to run our workshops with teachers and students
- Buy software licences
- Provide internet access
- Buy workshop & teaching materials for each school visit
- Ship laptops and workshop materials to Kathmandu
- Showcase the students’ projects on pitch day and invite parents, family members and the community
- Cover administration and local travel expenses
- Provide ongoing support through to 2019 to the teachers and students with our videos and teaching materials
Return to Nepal in 2019 to undertake more workshops"
