Ajay's Eye Surgery Fund

Ajay McKenzie is one happy, smart twelve-year-old boy from Jamaica, who is almost blind due to recent complications of Sickle Cell Anemia Disease. In an effort to help Ajay, his father researched the internet to find help for his son and found the Kresge Eye Institute in Detroit. Although we have only known him for two weeks, we became involved because we know Ajay's father, Hugh, who works with Kristen on Mackinac Island, Michigan, for six months of the year. He texted us to ask, “How far is the hospital from the airport?” and as friends are in life, we were “in” and picked up Ajay and his Uncle at the airport. Ajay is currently residing with us in Mason, Michigan.
Fast-forward two weeks - we have now had many appointments with compassionate and caring healthcare professionals and surgery on Ajay's right eye is scheduled in early March. Our hope is that the surgery will repair extensive damage and bring some additional sight to help Ajay navigate through the rest of his life. All of the doctors have indicated that time is of the essence.
Ajay has no insurance coverage and urgently needs our help. The surgery and associated costs on just his right eye are estimated to be between $17,000 and $20,000. Payment for the surgery is required in full prior to the surgery. We do not have much time and your donation today in any amount will help make a huge difference in Ajay’s quality of life.
Even with Hugh working this winter in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, he cannot possibly cover all of the expenses of the surgery and associated costs of travel, etc. His family deeply appreciates all that you can give. Thankyou from the bottom of all our hearts.
