World Teach China Global Fellowship

Hello! For those of you who know me, thanks for stopping by even after I've talked your ear off about China. For those of you who don't know me, my name is Victoria; I am 21 years old, and I am majoring in Education. I am finishing up my senior internship in an ESE K-1 mild/moderate class, and have loved every moment of teaching in the U.S.  However, I have felt the pull to teach abroad for over a year now, and I am finally making that dream a reality.

I was recently accepted into the World Teach China Global Fellowship program. There are only 60 spots open per year, and I applied just a few days before the deadline - so, making it in was a miracle of its own. I will be working as a middle school English teacher in the Hunan province. It will be challenging work (class sizes there are 50-60 students), but I have always loved a good challenge. I also know that learning English will open up so many opportunities for these students, which is my driving force for going. I know that there are easier or more glamourous places to teach, but I'm not in it for the lifestyle.

I am also not in this for the money. I will be working as a volunteer. I will receive room and board, as well as a monthly stipend equivalent to $500 USD. Even though that money is substantially less than what teachers make in the U.S., it will be plenty to live off of in this region. Staying afloat while I am in China should not be a problem; however, what I need help with is the preparations for going there. I need to save up money for airfare, a physical, immunizations, and various other pre-departure expenses. Furthermore, I will not be paid during my first month there; I need to have enough money saved to cover that. And, finally, I would love to be able to buy classroom supplies and books for my students once I arrive in China.

I am saving as much as I can for this, but I may not be able to do it all without help.  I depart for China on August 5; I am hoping to raise a little money by then through Go Fund Me. I would deeply appreciate any sort of help, because it will be getting me that much closer to China! And, if you cannot donate, would you please consider sharing this page? Thank you for taking the time to read this post!
